Dr. Nevers Mumba will Only Be Allowed To Contest If His MMD Membership Status Is Adressed: Christopher Banda

Dr. Nevers Mumba will not be allowed to contest the MMD Presidency if the party fails to address his membership issues.
MMD Muchinga Province Treasurer Christopher said the party leadership has been given 12 hours to address the matter or face a revolt.
“We shall stop Nevers Mumba from standing if Major Kachingwe fails to address the issues of Dr. Mumba’s candidature because he was expelled in 2005 by late Mwanawasa and since then he has never been re-admitted,” he said.
Mr. Banda warned that the failure by the party leadership to address pertinent issues raised by the former deputy minister Brian Sikazwe will be detrimental to the selection process of a new MMD leader.
He said the response from Deputy National Secretary Cheembe Nyangu that Pastor Mumba is a bonefide member is not down in good faith because it is aimed at covering up the expulsion of Dr. Mumba.
“On Friday, April 22, 2005, the MMD expelled Pastor Nevers Mumba from the party for gross indiscipline. This was against the background that Pastor Mumba dumped his then National Citizens Coalition (NCC) to accept the Vice Presidency under late President Levy Mwanawasa. Before long, Pastor Mumba’s appetite for power led him to start planning on challenging the same man who raised his status in society,” said Banda.
He said the issues of illegality on the part of Dr. Mumba are not personal but a principle on which the MMD was founded on in 1991.
Banda observed that when members ask questions, the party Secretariat should not dismiss them casually because there are far reaching implications which can work against the party in the short and long-term.
Banda said according to the party constitution those expelled can either apply to the MMD Convention or a full National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting for re-admission and not any other methods.
He said it is sad that Mr. Nyangu deliberately decided not to answer when Pastor Mumba became a bonafide member of the MMD after his expulsion and gave a blank statement.
“Strangers cost MMD its fortunes because they did not understand the spirit of reform which gave birth to the MMD. We are going to defend the MMD constitution and ensure that only bonafide members of the MMD are allowed to contest the Presidency.
What discipline can he (Pastor Mumba) bring to the MMD when he was expelled for gross indiscipline to this date, his return to the MMD remains a mystery. It does not matter whether he was contributing money to the MMD while in the diplomatic service because there are several other people who did that but they were not bonafide MMD members.”
