FIFA Checking Sudan Player’s Eligibility

Responding to a query from bolayathu.com on the status of the case, the world soccer governing body’s media department could neither confirm receipt of such a complaint regarding an ineligible player.

“We need to check and we will contact you as soon as we have news,” FIFA states as the Zambian FA says it has asked the body to look into the issue.
Sudan fielded Sail Ali, scorer of the second goal, in Zambia’s 2-0 defeat on June 2 but records show he was ineligible for the match as he was suspended.

The scandal in Sudan has caused a stir in that country with the Sudan Football Association secretary Hassan Saed calling for the formation of the commission of enquiry and resignation of the association president Hope Atbara.

According to alsad.net Saed said the Sudan FA was taking solace in the fact that Zambia had not pushed in an official complaint with FIFA.

“This is a scandal and a farce and a real emphasis on the lack of follow-up and attention within the Union,” he said.

According to the FIFA Disciplinary Code Chapter II, Section 2, Disorderliness at matches and Competitions Article 55, 1 States: “If a player takes part in an official match despite being ineligible, his team will be sanctioned by forfeiting the match (cf art.31) and paying a minimum fine of Swiss Francs 6,000.”

FIFA Disciplinary Code, Chapter 1, Section 2. Disciplinary measures Article.31.1 states: “A team sanctioned with a forfeit is considered to have lost the match by 3-0.”

The Falcons of Jerdiane lead the pack on four points in Group D, one better than Ghana and Zambia.

FAZ have published a half-hearted statement on their website claiming they were quietly pursuing the matter before the media blew the whistle.

'Hichelema Should Be Ashamed For Failing To Lead His Party'

PF Shiwang'andu Member of Parliament Stephen Kampyongo says Hakainde Hichilema should be ashamed that he has failed to lead his party in a successful manner.

Mr. Kampyongo notes that Mr. Hichilema has proved to be a true Hyena with no plan for his party as evidenced by the number of failed political pacts that he has tried to get into.

The parliamentarian has since castigated UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema for allegedly using disparaging remarks against President Michael Sata.

Mr. Kampyongo has told QFM news that president Sata is a national leader who deserves respect due to the position he holds.

And Mr. Kampyongo has also urged the UPND and its leader to respect Lusaka province Commissioner of Police Charity Katanga.

He adds that the police have a mandate to maintain law and order adding that UPND will always be watched especially now that it seems to have recruited a William Banda whom he termed as a militia leader.

Don’t sell your cotton yet — Chief Msoro

CHIEF Msoro of the Kunda speaking people in Mambwe District has ordered his subjects not to sell their cotton seed to any cotton company until the price has been adjusted upwards.

And former Agriculture Minister Dr Eustarckio Kazonga has urged the Government to protect the cotton farmers by assisting them with a better price.

In an interview in Chipata yesterday, Chief Msoro urged his subjects not start selling their produce to any cotton company at the moment until a better price had been offered.

The Cotton Ginneries have this year offered to buy the commodity at K1,500 per Kg, while last year’s price was at K3,250 per Kg.

Chief Msoro said cotton farmers were being exploited by the cotton companies by offering low prices.

He urged his subjects to at least sell their cotton at an average of K3,000 per kg.

“I have ordered my subjects that they should not start selling their cotton to any cotton company because of the low prices they are offering,” the Chief said.

He said he had also ordered the cotton companies who had arrived in the area to vacate failure to which he would order his subjects to chase any cotton company worker found in the area.

Chief Msoro said the idea was to protect the interest of the farmers who were suffering when it was time of selling the commodity.

“If the cotton companies or workers stay in my chiefdom the farmers can be forced to start selling the commodities to them so I have told them to vacate my chiefdom,” he said

And Dr Kazonga who is Vubwi Member of Parliament (MP) said he noted with dismay when he visited his constituency that most cotton was still stuck because of the impasse surrounding this year’s cotton price.

He said the Government should come in and assist the cotton farmers in opening up the cotton market price as failure to do so would result in huge losses.

TAZARA Act review team set up

THE governments of Zambia and Tanzania have resolved to set up a joint committee of experts to review the 1995 Tanzania Zambia Railway Act to instill efficiency in the cash-strapped Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA).
And the Zambian Government has made a commitment to inject US$10 million into the revival of the jointly-owned railway firm.
According to an article in yesterday’s edition of Tanzania’s Daily News, Tanzanian minister of Transport, Harrison Mwakyembe told journalists in Dar es Salaam that once the Act was reviewed, it would allow to structure changes in TAZARA management.
This follows the TAZARA council of ministers’ meeting held on Monday this week where Zambia was represented by Transport, Works, Supply and Communication Minister Yamfwa Mukanga.
Currently, the 1975 Tazara Act which was reviewed in 1995 states that the position of managing director would be occupied by somebody from Zambia while that of deputy managing director is reserved for a Tanzanian.
Among other changes, the review may lead to a situation where the holders of the two positions would be appointed on merit as opposed to the current system.
And Mr Mukanga said in the Tanzanian commercial capital, Dar es Salaam on Monday that Zambia was committed to injecting $10 million for recapitalisation of the railway firm but that initially it would pump in $5 million to increase the volume of cargo and passengers.
According to the Daily News, Mr Mukanga, who was flanked by his Tanzanian counterpart, Dr Mwakyembe and other senior government officials from both countries, made the remarks shortly after the council meeting.
“Among problems facing Tazara is capitalisation; we made a provision for the funds during the current financial year to enable the railway to increase passengers and cargo,” Mr Mukanga, who is the chairperson of the council of ministers for TAZARA, was quoted as saying.
He said the Zambian Government was committed to ensuring that the once-prosperous 1,800 kilometre railway got back to its earlier footing and reclaim its market for cargo and passengers.
“During the meeting, we have also discussed on how to revise the TAZARA Act in the respective countries,” Mr Mukanga said.
A year-long feasibility study is currently underway to establish the problems that afflict the railway company that links the Dar es Salaam port in Tanzania to Kapiri Mposhi in Zambia’s Central Province.
The study has already started and it is expected to be completed in June, next year.
The once-thriving railway line started sinking in the mid-1990s.
TAZARA is a brainchild of founding Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere and Zambia’s first leader, Kenneth Kaunda.

Economist lauds dollar ban

A LOCAL economist has said the ban on dollarisation will establish a firm basis for a sound local financial sector that will in the long run support a steady growth of the economy.
However, the Tourism Council of Zambia (TCZ) has said the move would impact negatively on tourism as most of products in the sector are quoted in foreign currency.
Commenting on the Government‘s Statutory Instrument (SI) to prohibit the quoting of prices in United States Dollars, Likando Mukumbuta said dollarisation would promote strong and steady economic growth in the economy.
The Government has banned business houses and institutions from quoting prices of goods and services in foreign currency rather than the national legal tender, the Kwacha.
Mr Mukumbuta said the Zambian economy was experiencing what he termed as an unofficial dollarisation and the move by the Government to issue the SI would protect the Kwacha as legal tender.
It would provide a stable and secure economic and investment climate.
“Of late we have seen inflation in Zambia go down to a single digit and so probably there might be a sentiment that we need to find better ways of consolidating this so that we can become an economy where inflation performs consistent,” Mr Mukumbuta said.
But TCZ chairperson Felix Mulenga said the ban on dollarisation would impact negatively on the tourism sector as most of the products in the sector were quoted in foreign currency.
Mr Mulenga said most of the products offered by the hotel and tour operators were exported to foreign countries and as a result there are priced in dollars.
He said the ban on dollarisation would have a negative bearing on the sector because clients make bookings in advance saying that quoting in Kwacha would result in price fluctuation.

Mumbwa gold test shows promise

BLACKTHORN Resources Limited (BTR) has said the final gold test for
phase five drilling project in Mumbwa in Central Province is showing
positive results.
BTR managing director Scott Lowe said the company was pleased to see
some positive gold results from the tests.
BTR is an Australian-based resources company unearthing value
from a diverse portfolio of base and precious metal projects in
Africa.
In Zambia, the Mumbwa copper-gold producing company is exploring for large iron oxide
copper-gold deposits, similar to the style of mineralisation found at
the Olympic Dam and Prominent Hill mines in South Australia, and
Ernest Henry mine in Queensland.
Drilling has delineated an initial Inferred Mineral Resource of 87
million tonnes at 0.94 per cent copper at the Kitumba Prospect.
According to a statement posted on the company website, the phase five
drilling programme commenced in August 2011 and was completed after
drilling 21 holes for a total of 10,934.51 metres.
“We are very pleased to see some positive gold results, especially
which these results confirm further shallow supergene enrichment.
“The current ground work and analysis, together with our future
exploration plans bring us into a truly exciting phase for the Mumbwa
project,” Mr Lowe said.
The statement said true-widths were not quoted as further work
was required to determine the geometry of the mineralisation.
It was considered that these elevated grades were a result of supergene
enrichment and
proximity to structures, most notably the North-East trending Kankamu Fault.
Zones of relative gold concentration were also observed in some drill holes.
The statement said that in most holes, the narrow zones of relative
gold enrichment occurred within a broad halo of low-level gold
mineralisation.
Further understanding of the gold and copper mineralised zones and
their geometries would be gained from geological modelling and the
updated mineral resource estimate currently in progress

‘Zambia should improve agro stats’

By Business Reporter -
THE Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has said Zambia needs to
improve statistical information on agricultural production and food
consumption to help optimise the production capacity of farmers.
FAO has observed that making data available on national food and
agricultural statistics in areas that produce particular foods would significantly improve the agriculture sector in Zambia and many
African countries.
To overcome this challenge, FAO has undertaken a programme to
create a database for all agriculture-related statistics called
CountrySTAT which would feed into the global system called FAOSTAT
covering more than 200 countries and territories.
FAO CountrySTAT project officer Julia Stone said the programme would
help the farmers and dealers in agricultural produce have
information pertaining to agricultural produce.
Ms Stone said the data would help people locate areas where the
produce would be found, especially that it would be collecting all the
data from all the food and agricultural institutions in the country
and carrying agricultural surveys.
“There are instances where there is a shortage of certain crops like
soya beans which can be found in the countryside, but under the
countrySTAT programme all the information will be provided,” she said.
Stakeholders in the agriculture sector contended that there was little
information on the availability of some of the agricultural produce in
the country, especially among small-scale farmers.
Speaking in Lusaka at the Agriculture Consultative Forum
stakeholders meeting, Ms Stone said the programme would also be
involved in the provision of quality and coordinated national
statistics by merging all the data from different food balance sheets
and food security analyses.
Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock development principal economist,
Dingiswayo Banda observed that there was lack of information in the
agriculture sector, which he said would be addressed by working in
collaboration with CountrySTAT.
“The project has links to other information systems including
FAOSTAT, Regional STAT and the global information and early warning
system work station which will help Zambia significantly,” he said.

R1.1m Zambia Open golf tourney on

THE crème de la crème of Zambia’s golfers today join a horde of world-class golfers as the 1.1 million Rand-rich 2012 Indo-Zambia Bank sponsored-Zambia Golf Open proper tees-off at the traditional Lusaka Golf Club after a seven year-absence.
But the Zambian contingent led by United States based golfer Madalisto Muthiya need to be at their best to fend off competition from 2011 champion Doug McGuigen and past winners Steve Basson and Desvonde Botes, who are leading a strong field of 98 South Africans heading to Lusaka for the event that was preceded by two Pro-Ams (professionals versus amateurs).
McGuigen won last year’s event held at Nchanga Golf Club with a score of 272 with Basson winning the Zambia Open on back-to-back occasions in 2006 at Nchanga and in 2007 at Ndola.
Pressure will be expected on the Zambian golfers to break the jinx of losing at home soil and lay their hands on the R1.1 million (about K715 million) rich-event that has over the past years eluded the local golfers since inception in 1972.
The winner stands to pocket R190, 000 with the runner-up getting R138, 000 and the third placed is expected to pocket R83, 040 going down to R3,000 for the golfer to finish 65th. The first professional to record a Hole-in-One during the tournament round will win a Jeep Wrangler worth US$ 65,000.
Adilson Da Silva, who won at the Ndola Golf Club in 2010 with a score 202, and Tyrone Ferriera, winner of the 2008 event held at the Chainama Hills Golf Club, withdrew from the event.
This year’s event has attracted Zambia’s best local and professional golfers among them Muthiya, who will be taking his second chance at the Zambia Open crown, after a close shave at Nchanga in 2006 when he emerged runner-up to South African Basson, who amassed 207 points.
Muthiya will be closely checked by countrymen Patrick Mwendapole, Kangwine Chiluba, Beza Daka, Vincent Kabaso Kelvin, Kelvin Phiri, Obed Sholoma, Muhammed Zulu, Stephen Mbewe, Bruce Chanda and Dwayne Moore.
Other locals expected to give the foreign professionals that have been lined up by the Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) a test are amateur golfers Kevin Cummings, Ntengwa Mukosa, Raj Sharma, Fred Ndhlovu, Kelly Munkombwe, Denmark Mulambo, Brice Tristan and the only female participant, Melissa Nawa.
Muthiya said in an interview, he was confident of a good finish and expressed confidence that a Zambian would one day win the event but that would depend on how much one has participated in international competitions other than the Zambian Open.
“We have good golfers who can win this event but they need to be participating in many competitions unlike always waiting for the Zambia Open; that always puts pressure on us. I had a feel of the course and it is in good shape and I am confident of a good finish,” he said.
Basson said winning this year’s event will largely depend on experience because of the golf course and the dry conditions which would make playing difficult.
He said in an interview after playing in the Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) Pro-Am yesterday that experience would be important towards winning the championships going by the way the golf course, which last hosted the event seven years ago, is playing.
Basson said conditions were good for the competition but that the course would favour the experienced golfers because of some obstacles that go with the Lusaka golf course.
Acting Republican President, Alexander Chikwanda was among the golfers that took to the course during the KCM-sponsored Pro-Am.
Meanwhile, Kaela Mulenga won the longest drive in the women’s category with Craig Meerholz winning the men’s event during the KCM-sponsored Pro-Am on Tuesday.
Matthew Nkhuwa managed a hole-in-one and also won the nearest-to-the-pin with Chola Oka getting the women’s version.
The team of Shaun Norris, Joel Chitambala, Miles Sampa and Caleb Mulenga emerged winners of the KCM Pro-Am after grossing 89 on a count-back with the team of Ignatius Metekete, Christopher Mulenga, Brian Chisegalumbwe and P.K Ndholvu finishing second with 89 points. In third position was Andrew Geogiou, Suhali Vally, Moses Tembo and Karen Khetan.
Other prominent names that participated in the event included acting Republican President, Chikwanda and Zambia Revenue Authority Commissioner General Berlin Msiska among others.
By press time results of the Airtel-sponsored Pro-Am had not yet been announced.

U-20 Southern Africa games preps on course

THE Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 2012 Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA) has said preparations for Zambia to host the Under 20 youth games scheduled for December in Lusaka are on course and will be finalised in record time.
LOC chief executive officer Chalimba Phiri said in an interview after the launch of the corporate partners of the Zone Six Games at the new Government complex in Lusaka on Tuesday evening that the team was more than ready to host the event.
“We are ready to host these games. Even if we were called to say the games have to be hosted today we can do that. We are on course let just the games begin,” Phiri said.
Phiri, who is the immediate past KCM-FAZ Premier Division Power Dynamos club chairperson, said Zambia signed to host the Games, and that there was no way the organising committee would fail to host the Games especially with the tag as African football champions.
He said the infrastructure was already in place and that it only needed final touches to reach highly competitive international standards for the games scheduled to start on December 4-17.
Phiri, however, said the swimming pool which was initially planned for the National Sports Development Center (NASDEC) would be built at the Olympic Youth Development Center (OYDC), but could not disclose when the construction would start.
He said Nkoloma Stadium would host the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games adding that the committee had also started works at the stadium for two grand stands.
Phiri said other facilities that needed final touches were Sunset Stadium that would be used for women football and the University of Zambia which will be used as the games village for the visiting teams.
Speaking earlier Director of Sports Bernard Nakachinda, said hosting the Under 20 youth games would not only market Zambia, but would also contribute to economic development.
Nakachinda said the Ministry of Sport realised that organising and hosting the event needed a lot of support from cooperating partners, hence the need for stakeholders to come on board and help stage the event.

Black Stars mess up Levy Stadium dressing room

AFTER failing to get satisfaction from accosting Tunisian referee Med Kordi on the new Levy Mwanawasa Stadium pitch in Ndola at the weekend, the vanquished Ghana’s Black Stars took their frustrations to their dressing room.

The Ghanaians trashed the room with all sorts of garbage, leaving the place a total mess to sum up their anger of losing twice to the Chipolopolo in four months.

In February this year, Zambia knocked Ghana in the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations.

Despite the stadium staff providing litter bins in the dressing rooms, the Ghanaian players opted to flood the floor with water, toilet tissues and banana peels.

A bathing tower from Moba Hotel in Kitwe where the Black Stars were lodging was also found dumped behind the dressing room lockers.

The mess was discovered by stadium staff after the Ghanaians had left for Kitwe following the 0-1 loss._”It’s unbelievable that the (Ghanaian) players whom we thought were civilised could leave such a mess in the dressing room.

We expected them to behave well despite losing here. How can they just throw things around like that,” a disappointed worker at the stadium, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.

Earlier, after the final whistle, the Ghanaian players had vented their anger on Kordi, whom they accused of poor officiating, and the police officers had a torrid time before calm returned on the pitch.

However, the Ghanaians claimed their midfielder Derek Boateng and unused striker Benjamin Acheampong were punched by Zambia security personnel in a post-match melee.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA), who have threatened to report the incident to the Confederation of African Football, also complained that their officials were not allowed entry into the VIP lounge and made to sit amidst Zambian fans.

And Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili said it was unfortunate that the Ghanaians were blaming referee Kordi for the 1-0 defeat, the goal scored by skipper Christopher Katongo to get Zambia’s campaign back on track.

Kambwili, however, counselled Ghana officials and players in an interview after the thrilling Group D match watched by a capacity crowd saying the Black Stars should learn to concede defeat and give credit where it is due instead of giving scapegoats.

“It’s unfortunate that the Ghanaians have kind of protested against the referee when you all saw that the referee was fair. There is no mistake that the referee made except that he handled the game professionally.

“So, they must just accept that they have lost, and when you lose you accept that you have lost without putting blame on anybody,” Kambwili said.

The minister said the Chipolopolo’s victory had vindicated his earlier statement made after a shock 2-0 defeat to Sudan in Omdurman when he said that the African champions would bounce back against Ghana.

“I told the whole world when I was interviewed last week that losing the first game was not the end of the world. And true to our word, we are African champions and we will continue to be African champions, we cannot be scared of any team.

“And usually a bad beginning makes a very good ending. So you can see that Zambia’s style of play and the level of play is extremely impressive and that the sky is the limit for the Zambia national soccer team,” he said

Poor infrastruture threat to food security -ZNFU

THE Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) has said poor state of the rail network, roads and storage facilities are some of the challenges threatening the country’s food security and has called for more investments in supportive infrastructure.

ZNFU Director Commodities, Eveline Nguleka said the infrastructure challenges were pushing up the cost of commodities and it was important for Government and the cooperating partners to invest resources towards agriculture supportive infrastructure.

She said the country’s failure to have a reliable transport system linking the production sites to the markets and storage areas was a danger to Zambia’s food security despite the availability of abundant resources.

“Underdeveloped markets for agriculture products poor road and rail networks have to some extent contributed to the high transport costs for farm produce. Poor feeder road networks, storage facilities and livestock diseases control infrastructure need attention.

“ZNFU strongly believes that investment in road infrastructure linking the production sites to the markets will help address this problem. Government and its partners should channel resources towards key agriculture supportive infrastructure.

She said food security would not be attained if post harvest losses were not quickly addressed at both production sites and transportation stages.

Attention needed to be directed towards rural set up of agro-processing as this would create jobs, address rural urban migration as well as challenges of income inequalities, a factor she said had contributed to poor human development especially in rural areas.

She said that sub-Saharan Africa had abundant resources which could support the growth and revolutionalise the agriculture sector but unfortunately, major parts of the region were still hunger-stricken.

She said with the correct allocation of resources, Zambia and the entire region could attain food security sustainably at all levels and turn around agricultural productivity and urged other countries in the region to make correct priorities.

He added that Government’s stance to favour consumption than production was dentrimental to the long term and sustainable development of the agriculture sector

Govt, Microsoft deal on cards

THE Ministry of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education is today expected to sign a one-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft Corporation that will seek to enhance access to the use of ICT in Zambian Schools.

Through the Partners-in-Learning MOU, both organisations will seek to improve adoption and use of technology in Zambian schools, increase capacity of teachers and students to use technology as a teaching and learning tool, and support initiatives that incorporate ICT in education.

Microsoft East and Southern Africa general manager Louis Otieno said technology was now becoming a driving force behind numerous aspects of national development and hence the need for Governments to embrace it.

“High-quality education is a fundamental component to the social and economic prosperity of any community,” he said in a statement.

“In today’s increasingly digital and connected world, computer skills are no longer a nice to have skill, but a requirement in almost all careers,” Mr Otieno said.

“Soya cake is the main ingredient used to make stockfeed and is mainly exported to Zimbabwe. We could have exported a lot more but we have to satisfy the local demand first before we could go outside”, Mr Koya said.

“We have demand for our product not only in Zambia but in the region as well and we are struggling to satisfy demand and supplying the items is a great challenge. So we are short of beef, pigs, eggs, chickens and milk,” Mr Koya said.

He said the business had continued to grow and the expansion is headed by the growth of the Zambian economy.

He explained that the Zambian economy was recording the fastest growing rate in Africa excluding oil producing countries.

Zambeef is emerging as one of the leading agri-businesses in the region and has been involved in the production, processing, distribution and retailing of beef, chicken, pork, eggs, milk, edible oils, stockfeed, flour and bread.

The company is also one of the largest cereal cropping operations in Zambia with approximately 8,350 hectares of irrigated land and approximately 8,650 hectare of dry land, available for planting each year.

The group currently employees approximately 5,500 people.

Don’t Engender Divisions, Says Chikwanda

ACTING-PRESIDENT Alexander Chikwanda says those who want to supplant the Patriotic Front (PF) as a ruling party should not engender divisions to erode peace and meaningful unity, which are crucial tools to accomplish Zambia’s development agenda.
Mr Chikwanda says 2016 (when the general elections are due) is a long haul and aspirants for the mandate from the electorate to rule Zambia “are advised to use their ammunition sparingly.”
He said this in Lusaka yesterday during a media briefing on some issues of national importance.
Mr Chikwanda said Government will also abide by the Supreme Court ruling in the matter in which it has appealed against the High Court decision to stay the suspension of a Supreme Court judge and two high court judges and to appoint a tribunal to stay their alleged misconduct.
The three judges have challenged President Sata’s decision to suspend them from office and constitute a tribunal to investigate them.
The trio are Supreme Court judge Phillip Musonda and High Court judges Nigel Mutuna and Charles Kajimanga.
Mr Chikwanda said the Judiciary has an advantage “in the undesirable war of attrition because they have an enviable role of being a player and referee.”
He said the President cannot dismiss the judges under the provisions of the current constitution.
Mr Chikwanda, however, said the President’s latitude to appoint a tribunal is “beyond dispute.”
He said Government will not take any “precipitate measures” in the matter and appealed to members of the public and civil society organisations to be patient on the matter.
“The people of Zambia are being dared to sit in moral judgment of the executive and the judiciary because what is happening is far beyond legality. It is a moral issue, for no government can stand with sustainability without distinct moral bench marks. This is at the core of the very essence of any government premised on democracy and the rule of law,” he said.
On the recent demonstration by opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) youths which resulted in a confrontation with the police, Mr Chikwanda said this was a result of people intent on confrontation “tempting the police to react.”
He, however, said those wishing to demonstrate are free but must do so within the confines of the law.
“While we urge the law enforcement agencies to act with greater restraint, we also enjoin those who want to exercise their constitutional rights and freedom to assemble and demonstrate to do so with responsibility and within the confines of the law. They should avoid confrontational stances,” Mr Chikwanda said.
He said opposition parties must not be synonymous with violence and intolerance.
Mr Chikwanda said there is currently no conflict on the imperatives of national unity and urged all interest groups to observe the law.
“We appeal to all well- meaning Zambians to embrace peace and harmony and isolate the promoters of dissent and intolerance from the mainstream Zambians who are apostles of love, compassion and togetherness,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Chikwanda has clarified that Government currently owns about 90 percent stake in the Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ) because the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) and Exim Bank of India have not increased their shares proportionately to Government’s equity contribution.
He said this has increased Government’s shareholding, leading to “over-swamping” of other equity partners.
Mr Chikwanda, who is Minister of Finance, said Government’s shareholding in DBZ is in accordance with the provisions of Section Three of Minister of Finance Incorporation Act Cap 349 of the Laws of Zambia in conjunction with Section Seven.
“It is in this context and public interest that the Minister of Finance as shareholder directed the DBZ to ask their lawyer to pend (hold) the action before the court, not to withdraw but seek the Attorney General’s option because the matter before the court had acquired overtones which were contentious,” he said.
Mr Chikwanda said it is Government’s practice to seek guidance of the Attorney General’s opinion on matters without certainty.

Golfview Hotel Goes For $3m

CRESTA Marakarero Hotel of Botswana has bought Golfview Hotel in Zambia for about US$3 million
The company, which is an investment arm of the Ministry of Trade and Industry in Botswana, has officially taken over the operations of Cresta Golfview Hotel in Zambia.
Cresta Marakanero managing director Tawanda Makaya says the move is designed to expand the Cresta brand across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region and develop the hospitality industry in Zambia.
Mr Makaya says Zambia’s friendly business environment compelled Cresta to consider the country as a viable investment destination.
“We believe that we will operate effectively in Zambia because of the economy which is expected to grow by 8 percent in the next five years and the inflation hovering at 6 to 6.5 percent,” he said.
He said this at the re-launch of the Cresta Golfview Hotel in Lusaka.
Mr Makaya said plans are underway to expand on the Copperbelt in the last quarter of 2013.
“Prospects of our business are growing as we have been in the hospitality industry for 35 years, .we will continue to grow in other areas like the Copperbelt ,”he said.
Meanwhile Deputy Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Keith Mukata said intra-regional investment in the hospitality industry has been minimal with only few African countries investing in the sector.
Mr Mukata said the current bed-space in Zambia is below the optimum requirement with a bed capacity of approximately 1,500 compared to other countries in the region.
“The requirement for accommodation at all levels ranges from five-star hospitality to backpacker standard. Given the fact that the current bed-space in Zambia is far much below the optimum requirements, I urge Cresta Group to consider increasing their investment in the sector,” he said.
He said that there is need to invest in Zambia’s historical sites which have remained unexploited over the years to enhance the tourism industry in Zambia.
He said other investment opportunities in Zambia included water-related tourist activities, transport service, adventure enterprises, game- ranching and ethno tourism.
“Government will continue supporting initiatives that seek to promote the growth of Zambian businesses and their partnership not only in Zambia but also abroad,” he said.

Now Robiana in ICU

ROBIANA Muteka, the 24-year-old man who recently underwent an operation at University Teaching Hospital (UTH) to remove a tumour from his back, has been admitted to the UTH’s main Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The neural fibro myoma tumour has completely covered his left lung and has displaced the heart from its position.
Last week, Robiana, a resident of Livingstone, underwent a computerised tomography scan which revealed an extended growth of neural fibro myoma tumour on the left lung.
This has resulted in him gasping for air, a condition that has compelled doctors to move him to the ICU, according to UTH managing director Luckson Kasonka, who confirmed this in an interview yesterday.
Dr Kasonka said Robiana has been connected to the oxygen machine to assist him to breath as his left lung has been rendered ‘useless’ after being covered by the tumour.
Dr Kasonka said the tumour, which is growing rapidly, has also affected the functions of the heart as it (the heart) has been displaced from its position.
“The heart is located on the left side of the lungs and because the tumour has completely covered that lung, this has also affected the functioning of the heart.
“It (heart) is not pumping well and because only one lung is working, breathing has become a problem and it is for this reason that we have decided to move the patient to the ICU and connect him to an oxygen machine,” Dr Kasonka said.
He said blood circulation has also been affected as the tumour has interfered with the heart, which pumps blood.
Dr Kasonka explained that Robiana’s anaemia is not improving despite blood transfusion.
He, however, said doctors will try everything possible to keep Robiana alive.
“For now, we are considering to remove the left lung, which is of no use. Pray for his recovery,” he said.
Robiana was evacuated to UTH from Livingstone in March this year following President Sata’s directive to enable him to access specialist treatment for his back tumour.
A specialised team of doctors at UTH removed a 14.5 kilogramme tumour from his back but apparently, a tumour known as neural fibro myoma has extended to his left lung.

Speed Up Oil exploration, Investors Urged

AS the demand for energy increases around the world, Zambia has appealed to investors to speed up exploration and possible drilling of oil, in a move that could enrich the country and its people, according to Minister of Mines, Energy and Water Development Christopher Yaluma.
Mr Yaluma was speaking here during a road show aimed at marketing Zambia as the next best investment frontier in Africa.
“Apart from copper, the country has significant deposits of manganese, zinc, uranium, coal, limestone and phosphate all waiting to be exploited,” he said in a presentation.
Specifically, the minister told investors that the energy minerals in Zambia include “…coal bed methane and petroleum potential which can be considered unexploited” as renewable energy utilisation continues to remain “negligible” in Zambia.
Mr Yaluma feels the next biggest thing international investors in conjunction with the government must look at is to pump money into petroleum.
So far, according to Mr Yaluma’s well-received pitch here, potential investors and partners must look 43 blocks of oil and gas that have been set aside or demarcated for exploration, which has not taken place yet.
Mr Yaluma said 11 potential oil blocks were licensed last year by Government with 26 still remaining to be put up for tender, while some six other blocks await partners as Zambia targets to become a middle income country by 2030.
There are presently 86 Middle Income Countries (MIC) that include China and Egypt, which have slowly slipped off the low income bracket.
MIC people have more money than people in low income countries such as Zambia, whose people survive on less than US$2 per day for all their basic needs, according to World Bank studies.
Zambia’s quest to become an oil-producing country has probably been heightened by increasing mining activities that have exerted further pressure on power needs.
“Demand for power has risen from 1,100 mega watts in 2001 to 1,500 megawatts by 2011,” Mr Yaluma said adding “the base load has been growing at a rate of 100 megawatts per year.”
If oil and gas exploration is accelerated and the commodity is actually drilled, Zambia could join oil-producing countries in Africa such as Ghana, which discovered oil in 2009 at Cape Three Points Block.
This is being drilled by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), in conjunction with Vitol Upstream Ghana Limited (Vitol), and has set Ghana on a path of economic success.
Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Bob Sichinga, who told potential investors here that evidence exists to the effect that oil does exist in the north-western part of Zambia, echoed Mr Yaluma’s sentiments.
Mr Yaluma also said from now own, Government will discourage the export of mined “raw ore” and encourage investors to set up industries locally to promote value addition which will create jobs.
President Sata has stated at various fora here that he intends to create more well-paying jobs for the youth as he attempts to fight corruption.
Zambia is currently Africa’s number one copper producer, but the oil dream has been the missing link in the country and Government’s desire to accelerate economic growth and if it materialises, perhaps poverty levels will be drastically reduced.
What is important, however, according to analysts here, is that President Sata’s government should start putting in place laws that will ensure that Zambians benefit more from the oil, unlike the way the benefits from copper sales have continued to elude them.
Mr Yaluma is one of the ministers that accompanied President Sata here on his roadshow, in addition to others such as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism Given Lubinda and Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development Emmanuel Chenda.
President Sata is expected back in Lusaka sometime this week as his busy schedule of business meetings continues.

Youth endorse Liato for MMD vice-president

THE youth leadership in Western Province has resolved to back former Kaoma Central Member of Parliament (MP) Austin Liato as the MMD’s vice-president.

Those in support of Mr Liato are youth chairpersons from Kaoma, Mongu, Sesheke, Kalabo, Lukulu, Senanga, Shang’ombo and Mulobezi districts.

The resolution was made at a meeting held at Ishaa Mbingo’s Kraal Lodge in Kaoma at the weekend.

Those that signed the resolution were Kaoma District youth chairperson David Chiyuka, Vincent Mapunga from Mongu, Sesheke’s George Simulilo and Mulambwa Munalula representing Kalabo.

Others were Mutete Mutete from Lukulu, Senganga’s Muyambwa Wamundila, Lifasi Mutonga of Shang’ombo and Sililo Kusika representing Mulobezi.

When contacted for comment, MMD deputy national secretary Chembe Nyangu said Mr Liato was a “free man as his suspension was lifted long before his conviction.”

He said Mr Liato was an active and loyal member of the former ruling party.

Mr Nyangu said the position of vice-president had not been advertised yet, but that it would be announced soon.

He said members who were in good standing with the party would be urged to contest.

“By 30th June, 2012 we should have the two vice-presidents in place,” he said.

Western Province youth Chairperson Musangu Njamba said the resolution to rally behind Mr Liato was based on his exemplary track record in various portfolios he served and that it was arrived at after wider consultations in the province.

“We have resolved that we are going to sell Liato for the position of the vice-president of our party because we have seen how he has worked. Mr Liato has worked well in all the portfolios he was given in the Government of this country,” he said.

Mr Njamba cited Mr Liato’s portfolios he had served as Labour minister, Energy deputy minister, Lusaka Province Minister, Kaoma Central MP for ten years, Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) vice- president.

He also served as Zambia Electricity and Allied Workers Union president.

The Lusaka Magistrate’s Court last month sentenced Mr Liato to two years imprisonment with hard labour for possessing property suspected to be proceeds of crime. This was in connection with the K2.1 billion, which was dug out from his Mwembeshi farm.

He was released on K50 million bail pending his appeal to the High Court.

At the MMD provincial conferences, which ushered into office Nevers Mumba as the party’s president, it was resolved that the vice- presidency position be reintroduced after being frozen for several years.

The party would now have two vice-presidents, one in charge of political affairs while the other one for administration.

Girl narrates defilement ordeal

A Thirteen-year-old girl has insisted before the Kabwe magistrate court that she has never had sex before her 30-year-uncle defiled her despite a medical report indicating otherwise.

Kabwe Magistrate Smart Mweene has since summoned a doctor based at Kabwe General Hospital to clarify the matter.

This is in case in which Emmanuel Chilufya of Makululu township is facing charge of defilement of a child.

Particulars before the court indicate that Chilufya on February 14 this year did defile the girl.

The girl narrated that on the fateful night as she was sleeping, her uncle sneaked into her room and before she realised what was going on she felt a man penetrating her.

She realised that her uncle, who is her step-father’s younger brother, was defiling her and switched on the torch which was below her pillow.

As she screamed for help, the torch dropped and the accused person ran away.

She said during the examination in chief by State Prosecutor Lackson Ngoma that at the time of the incident her mother was away attending a funeral.

She later reported the matter to a neighbour.

Her younger sister narrated that she was awakened by her sister who was screaming for help and saw Chilufya bolting before the torch dropped.

The prosecutor applied that the court summons the doctor who issued the medical report to explain circumstances after the girl insisted that she never had sex before her uncle defiled her.

Powerhouse dehorn Buffaloes

‘POWERHOUSE’ Lusaka at the weekend ended their title drought after dethroning Green Buffaloes to win the Heroes Sevens rugby tournament that was played at the Green Eagles grounds in Kabwe.

Lusaka’s triumph also ended ‘Men At Work’ Diggers dominance of the cup competitions having won three on a trot but were eliminated at the quarterfinal stage by Buffaloes who handsomely won 27-7.

It was a good day for the Joshua Lungu coached Lusaka, who apart from walking back home K5 million richer, saw their player Ernest Mwansa voted man-of-tournament and collected K500, 000.

Buffaloes got K2. 5 million for their efforts with Eagles and Red Arrows, who tumbled at the semi final stage walking away with K1.5 million and K1 million respectively.

Israel Kalumba, Mwansa and Michello Shelleni scored a try apiece for Lusaka which Larry Kaushiku managed to convert as the midlands side showed why they are called ‘Powerhouse’.

To get this far, Lusaka saw off Nchanga with a 33-0 win before eliminating the hosts Eagles 26-14 while Buffaloes beat Diggers in the quarterfinals followed by a sweet 5-0 win over their rivals Red Arrows.

Lusaka club captain Bupe Mulenga commended her team for putting up an outstanding performance to win the tournament that was heavily contested.

Mulenga said in an interview that the win was a morale booster for the team as they also aim to challenge for the league title despite trailing leaders Diggers and second placed Arrows mid-way the season.

“I am happy with the performance of the players as they put up a brave performance to beat Buffaloes and win our first title. It is a good win for us as it has given us confidence to challenge for other titles and the league,” she said.

Lusaka and Diggers are the only two sides to have won cup competitions this season with the Kitwe side enjoying three victories after winning the Nchanga 10’s, American and Mufulira Sevens tournament.   source   bolyathu

Sudan leads Group D World Cup qualifiers

SUDAN yesterday took over sole leadership of Group D despite failing to replicate their form which won them the opening 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier over Zambia, settling for a barren draw in Lesotho at the Setsoto Stadium in Maseru.

Despite the setback at Group D minnows, Lesotho, Sudan lead the group on four points, one better than Ghana and African champions, Zambia.

Ghana, who had battered the tiny Southern African kingdom 7-0, were humbled 0-1 by Zambia in Ndola on Saturday.

Ghana are second by virtue of having a healthier goal difference than the Chipolopolo while Lesotho are bottom with just point.

Prior to this match the Lesotho Football Association had offered their players more than R5,000 (about K3.2 million) each as an incentive to beat the Sudanese.

And the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have said they will view the footage of their World Cup qualifier against Zambia to verify claims of assault by the police and that the Ghanaian officials were denied entry into the VIP section of the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

During the post match Press conference, GFA communications director, Ibrahim Sannie-Daara threatened to drag Zambia to the Confederation of African Football over the alleged assault of Derek Boateng, Adam Kwarasey and Ben Acheampong.

The players were alleged to have been abused by police officers in the aftermath of the match.

The Ghanaians were also complaining of unsporting treatment of its officials by the Football Association of Zambia who were allegedly made to sit in the crowd.

Other results from yesterday’s matches, Mozambique 0-0 Zimbabwe, Ethiopia 2-0 Central African Republic, Tanzania 2-1 Gambia, Rwanda 1-1 Benin and DR.         source-bolayathu

Power short-circuit Zesco table lead

ZESCO United’s 2012 MTN Premier Division League unbeaten run came to an abruptly end in Kitwe yesterday when they lost lost to champions Power Dynamos, subsequently surrendering the top slot on the table to Zanaco.

Zanaco took over the leadership of the log on 29 points, one better than Zesco after 13 games played this season.

While a 10-man Zesco were battling to salvage a draw off Power in a match watched by Chipolopolo players Chisamba Lungu, Emmanuel Mbola and Jonas Sakuwaha, Zanaco easily collected maximum points off Konkola Blades to open up a slender lead over the Wedson Nyirenda’s side.

Power, who have bridged the gap with Zesco to three points, went to sleep in the second half failing to replicate an exhibition they put up in the first half when they rolled over their visitors to take a 2-0 first half lead through goals by striker Felix Nyaende and midfielder Emmanuel Chimpinde.

Zesco defender Gift Sakuwaha made it game on in the 54th minute when he pounced on a rebound from close range after Power goalkeeper Elliot Phiri spilled a curling set piece by midfielder Innocent Mwaba on the left flank into his strides.

Nyirenda’s side had to play much of the game with 10 men after referee William Chewe flashed a straight red at midfielder Kondwani Mtonga in the 19th minute for a careless crude tackle on Power skipper Joseph Sitali who had neatly beaten him to the ball away from danger.

Zanaco 2 Blades 0

From Sunset Stadium, Elias Chipepo reports that Zanaco yesterday took over league leadership after beating a determined Konkola Blades in a tightly fought encounter that saw Henry Banda and substitute Elson Mkandawire securing victory for the bankers.

Banda scored his goal in the ninth minute after finishing off a Lewis Macha pass before turning provider to Mkandawire, who came in for Ephraim Banda in the 60th minute, who did a lobby past goalkeeper Becky Bizangi deep into stoppage time.

Assembly 2 Arrows 1

National Assembly recorded their second successive win to amass 10 points when they beat Red Arrows, who remained fourth on 21 points after this week 13 local derby, reports Muwali Musampula from Woodlands Stadium.

The parliamentarians took the lead in the 40th minute through Humphrey Juma before Adubelo Phiri equalised in the goal melee just for Brian Chilando to score the winner with a wonder bicycle that proved too good for keeper Daniel Munyau and his defenders.

Forest 3 Nkana 1

At Dola Hill in Ndola, Felix Malunga reports that Nkana coach Linos Makwaza suffered abuse from the club’s fans as the 11-time league champions were subdued by a rejuvenated Forest Rangers.

Forest striker Nasha Kaya started the rout in the 20th minute before Malar Besa added the second nine minutes later.

Makwaza was forced to substitute goalkeeper Kennedy Kalale for Charles Mumba after he punched the ball into Besa’s path to graciously score.

Enock Jere reduced the deficit for Nkana in the 50th minute to give his team and some travelling fans hope that sadly was quashed a minute later after Owen Kaposa scored the clincher.

Nakambala 0 Buffaloes 1

In Mazabuka, George Chikokola won his first match as Green Buffaloes thanks to an 18th minute goal by Michael Bulaya to move up to 16 points while the ‘sugarcane boys’ Nakambala Leopards are on 14 points.

Mine Police 2 Eagles 0

In the border town of Chililabombwe, Albert Kamusweke reports that Konkola Mine Police yesterday notched up their fourth win of the elite league when they made short work of visiting Green Eagles in week 13 match in Chililabombwe scoring the goals through Austin Muwowo and Lazarus Kambole.

Nyondo gave Mine Police the lead in the eighth minute from defence-splitting a through ball after a good interchange of passes from Brian Chewe and Musonda Mwape and Kambole sealed victory in the 68thminute to move his side up to 17 points while Eagles remained four points adrift.

Rangers 0 Napsa 1

The effects of Nchanga Rangers parting company with seasoned coach Bruce Mwape have started showing at Nchanga Stadium where the Chingola side suffered a shock defeat to Napsa Stars tutored by veterans Patrick Phiri and Peter Kaumba.

Veteran striker Linos Chalwe gave a star-studded Napsa the all-important goal in the 70th minute as the Lusaka-based outfit moved up to join Rangers and Red Arrows on 21points.

Indeni 0 Roan 0

Indeni were held to a draw by visiting Roan United in a match that either side could have easily won had they converted their chances. Indeni are bottom with eight points while Roan are also in the relegation zone with 11 points.    source-  bolayathu

UNWTO hosting: State needs support

THE private sector in Zambia has been urged to complement the Government efforts towards the successful hosting of the 20th session of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) general assembly in Livingstone and Victoria Falls town next year.

Institute of Directors Southern Region vice-president Frederick Mwendapole said there was need for the private sector to give maximum support to the Government in the hosting of the UNWTO general assembly.

In a response to a Press query, Mr Mwendapole said the hosting of the general assembly was a huge task which required both the private and public sector to work together.

“The President of Zambia, Michael Sata and his Zimbabwean counterpart Robert Mugabe have already set the pace for everyone to work on and we should all put the best to see to it that the UNWTO general assembly succeeds.

“The private sector must therefore, give maximum support to the public sector in this regard so that we complement each other,” he said.

Mr Mwendapole, who is Bicentenary Livingstone 2013 liaison officer, said the recent trilateral hosting agreement signing ceremony of Zambia, Zimbabwe and the UNWTO was moving and exciting.

He said the two presidents and UNWTO secretary general Taleb Rifai did their part by putting Zambia and Zimbabwe on the word map and everyone should now be looking forward to the success of the assembly next year.

“For Zambia and Zimbabwe to have agreed to work together on this very important mission through our two ministers of Tourism for Zambia and Zimbabwe just shows how much our two presidents are valuing the existing relationship which the rest of us must appreciate,” he said.

In October 2011, Zambia and Zimbabwe won a bid to co-host the 20th Session of the 186-member General Assembly to be held in 2013 in Livingstone and Victoria Falls town, in Zimbabwe.

The general assembly is the principal gathering of the UNWTO which meets after every two years to consider the budget and programme of work for the United Nations specialised agency on tourism.

Delegates to the general assembly are drawn from the six regional commissions of the UNWTO from Africa, the Americas, the East and Pacific Europe, the Middle East and South Asia.

More than 3,000 delegates across the world are expected to attend the event in Zambia and Zimbabwe next year

Zambia’s capital market small – BoZ

THE Bank of Zambia (BoZ) has admitted that Zambia’s capital market is too small and weak to support Zambia’s desired growth prospects and urgently needs a boost to keep up with the thriving economic trends.

Deputy BoZ governor in charge of operations, Bwalya Ng’andu said the growth of the economy and local companies regardless of their size needed a strong capital market to support opportunities and help refinance operations.

He said the main capital market in Zambia, the Lusaka Stock Exchange (LuSE) was not a well-developed source of finances adding that such were among the challenges Zambia’s financial sector needed to overcome.

“We have a small capital market and weak financial base. These are serious challenges Zambia faces and they have to be worked on for the capital market to support Zambia’s economic growth,” he said.

Dr Ng’andu said the central bank was looking at legislation which would bring in all parties in the financial sector to help provide long-term funding to the economy.

He was responding to Barclay Bank managing director Saviour Chibiya, who is the immediate past Bankers Association of Zambia (BAZ) chairperson who had said banks could not be wholly blamed for not fully supporting economic projects.

Mr Chibiya had said that while commercial banks may be getting the criticisms from various quarters including the Government for not fully supporting the economic growth in Zambia, the other forms of financing that could be used by the local economy were weak.

Commercial banks have been blamed for the high interest rates in Zambia, a situation that had disadvantaged most Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SME) which were inhibited from accessing the loans.

Mr Chibiya said various forms of capital markets were a source of finance for long-term loans for banks but regretted that Zambia did not have a well developed capital market that the banks could run to for funds to support long -term loans.

Dr Ng’andu admitted that the LuSE was too small and that the pensions and insurance should come on board to help provide financing to the banks or directly offer long-term loans to the business community.

“We have to deepen the financial sector. The development bank should play a role, the capital markets like the stock exchange and pensions and insurance should stimulate the money market and then the economy.

“We at the Bank of Zambia are reviewing legislation so that insurance companies are stimulated and help in deepening the financial sector. The pension is a great source of long-term financing and we are looking into that,” he said.

Former Energy Minister Kenneth Konga collapses during interrogation by joint investigative wings

Former Energy Minister Kenneth Konga this morning collapsed as he was being interrogated by the joint investigative wings in Lusaka.

MMD President Nevers Mumba has confirmed this to ZNBC News. Dr. Mumba said that Mr. Konga was rushed to Saint Johns hospital but has since been moved to the University Teaching Hospital.

Last year, Mr Konga was summoned by the Zambia police at the former Task Force offices and the police seized his vehicle following a nine hours search conducted at his Kabulonga residence.

A combined team of investigators from the Zambia Police, Anti Corruption Commission and Drug Enforcement Commission also seized two motorcycles from the former minister’s residence. Later on in parliament, Mr Konga, said that the Hummer police seized from his Kabulonga residence was acquired using the money Members of Parliament get from Parliament for car loans.

Mr Konga revealed this when he asked vice president Guy Scott to tell the house whether the money the National Assembly gives MPs for car loans is stolen money for Police to seize his vehicle.

Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela later announced that Mr Konga had been cautioned in relation to abuse of authority contrary to Section 99 Sub-Section 1 of the laws of Zambia.

Early this month, Mr Konga opened a Hotel in Lusaka built at a cost of K4.5 billion. The 40-room Diamondacres Hotel on Dedan Kemathi Road overlooking the Kafue Road Fly-over Bridge, has created 25 direct jobs, according to Mr Konga.

Mr Konga, who is Chavuma Member of Parliament, said that the hotel was going to help the country provide hospitality services to tourists and accommodate business persons from other countries. He said the aim of building the hotel was to contribute to the creation of jobs for Zambians and to offer good services to the public.

“We spent about K4.5 billion to put up this hotel and so far it has created 25 direct jobs for Zambians and we are hoping we can create 10 more jobs to make it 35.

“People who will be coming to Zambia from different parts of the world are welcome and can lodge with us because this is a top-class hotel with quality services for all,” he said.

He said out of the 40 rooms, 36 were executive, two single and two double rooms while the hotel included other facilities like a conference room, a bar and a restaurant. Mr Konga called for more investment in the hospitality industry if Zambia was to attract more tourists and business travellers.

Police Arrest British Man with 6 Roasted Human babies used for Black Magic Ritual

A British citizen has been arrested in Bangkok after six foetuses were found stuffed into travel bags. Hok Kuen Chow, 28, a Briton born in Hong Kong of Taiwanese parents, was held in the city’s Yaowarat area after police received a tip-off.

He is suspected of trying to smuggle the foetuses – from two to seven months – back to Taiwan to sell to wealthy customers online.

Chow has reportedly admitted buying the bodies, which had been roasted dry and painted in gold leaf, for 200,000 baht (£4,040).

Back in Taiwan he could have sold them for six times that amount to rich clients who believe the foetuses will bring them good fortune. ‘The bodies are between the ages of two and seven months,’ said Wiwat Kumchumnan, of the police’s children and women protection unit.

‘Chow said he planned to sell the foetuses to clients who believe they will make them lucky and rich. ‘Some were found covered in gold leaf.’

Police said the bodies also had a variety of religious decoration and tattoos on them.

It was not clear yesterday where the bodies, which had been stored in six travel bags, came from or who had handed them over to Chow.

It is possible they had undergone the grisly Thai practice ‘Kuman Thong’, in which unwanted babies are surgically removed from their mother’s womb before being subjected to a ceremonial ritual.

Instead of being buried, the bodies are roasted dry and covered with a lacquer before being painted with gold leaf.

Chow, who was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of human remains, was staying at a hotel in a backpacker area in Bangkok when he was detained.

Police had received a tip-off that foetus corpses were being offered to wealthy clients through a website advertising black magic services. Black magic rituals are still practised in Thailand, where street-side fortune tellers offer ceremonies to reverse bad luck.

Chow faces one year in prison and a 2,000 baht (£40) fine if he is found guilty.

In November 2010, health inspectors found 2,000 foetuses on a building site by a monastery in Bangkok which had been illegally aborted.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office yesterday confirmed it was on stand-by following the arrest.

A spokesman said: ‘We can confirm the arrest of a British national in Bangkok on May 18. ‘We stand ready to provide consular assistance.’

What a bizarre, cruel and unbelievable religious practice. You can’t make this shit up! Teh Stupid is alive and well in Taiwan.

Forcing Chief Justice To Resign Has Serious Implications - Dr. Mumba

MMD presidential aspirant Nevers Mumba says forcing the Chief Justice to step-down will result in serious implications for the country%u2019s democratic system.

Dr Mumba has also hoped that the calls for the Chief Justice to step-down are not politically motivated.
He since stated that those who want the Chief Justice to go should wait for the judicial reforms to take place.

Dr Mumba says the Government should first embark on judicial reforms, before the issue of whether the Chief Justice should continue or not can be addressed.

There have been increasing calls from some stakeholders for Chief Justice Ernest Sakala to step-down as the first step towards judicial reforms.

World's First sex school opens in Austria

LONDON: While many people may think it's an activity which should be best learned behind closed doors, an enterprising Swedish schoolmistress thinks otherwise.

Ylva-Maria Thompson has opened the world's first international sex school for teaching the art of being better lovers, the Daily Mail reported.

The Austrian International Sex School in Vienna offers 'hands on' lessons in seduction for 1,400 pounds a term. The 'headmistress' says anyone over the age of 16 can enrol at 'the world's first college of applied sexuality'.

Students of the course are expected to stay in a co-ed dormitory block where they're expected to practice their 'homework'. By the end of their course, they are awarded a qualification.

The school head said: "Our core education is not theoretical, but very practical. The emphasis is on how to be a better lover.

"Sexual positions, caressing techniques, anatomical features. And we teach people hands on."

School's spokesperson Melodi Kirsch exuded confidence that the school would be a great success.

The school, however, has already turned controversial in Austria with it raunchy advertisments showing a couple making love having already invited ban by Austrian TV.

Meet 28 Years Old Lady That Already Had 26 Abortions!!!

When I read this story,I found it hard to believe,I asked myself, could this be true???..Anyway read her story after the jump:

I am 26 years old. I simply got into sex out of ignorance like millions of young people today. My addiction placed me as the highest abortionist in the world at age of 26 and now, I have a sad story to tell.
Until I found myself in a total mess, I never really had any Idea what premarital sex was all about. I never knew it was so useless and killing. Before I got into it, I use to think it was some fun and I dreamt of it more often than not. I wished with all my heart to have a boyfriend whom we would explore it together, little did I know that I was being nasty to myself.

Because of things I see on TV and magazine, I thought having sex was so much fun, I fantasized about it each time I felt lonely. Only if I had known that everything I see in movies and soap operas were just acting and make belief; only if I had known that there is nothing in sex after all, the only thing in it is self destruction; I think my life wouldn’t be this miserable.

It’s a pity i really had to learn the hard way and I really wish I had never been born, I wish I had not come out into this deceitful world where nobody cares about young people, all the so called adults do is how they would play on the intelligence of young people in a bid to exploit and use them to satisfy their insatiable sexual passion. I really feel bad about this wicked world.

My plight started when I was sixteen, then I was still a virgin and in secondary school, I was ignorant of many things but because I see it every day on the TV and internet. More so, a couple of so called Anti AIDS people visited us in school a couple of times for lectures, but all they did was introduce sex to us even more because they really had nothing but condoms to show.

Fine, they told us about AIDS, but at the same time, they also told us about condoms, they never really said anything real about sex, they said we could contact AIDS not through sex, but unprotected sex, which means there was nothing wrong with sex as long as you could use condoms, but all of that I now know very well are lies, and I wonder why men and women would enjoy telling teenagers deadly lies like that.

Even though I can’t blame those people totally for my plight because they weren’t really the ones that said I should go into sex, I still never forgive them for encouraging me and other young people like me into sex with their preaching of protected sex or condom. Even though I wanted to see what sex was really like and I fantasized about it, some were within me, I was still very scared of what may happen to me afterwards if l tried it, and it was that fear that actually kept me away from it until I was sixteen.

By the time I was sixteen, my fantasy had gotten enough boost to express itself with reliance to said to myself one day, “free yourself baby girl, there is nothing terrible in sex, can’t you see everyone is doing it, by the way, you can always use condoms nothing will happen”. So, I finally decided to let go of my fears and embrace in totality my silly fantasies, and that was how I took the very first step into this miserable life of illicit sex. I had absolutely no idea of what I was going into.

I finally agreed to date this guy who had been disturbing me for more than a year, his name was Andrew. Andrew was five years older than me. Both of us began enjoying sex, - we did it every seconds, every minute; - I became addicted that I do not love doing it with condom anymore. Within the period, I had 14 abortions for Andrew, and not only that, I cheated on him in several occasions, I felt doing it with other guys will give me better sensation but all were the same.

My school teacher got me and at the end of the day I had 6 abortions for him. And worst among was my sexual affairs with my close relations, which resulted to 5 abortions. Then I felt I was at the top of the world. I will never forgive my friends who introduced me into partying and sleeping with old men with potbelly and rough skin only in the name of sex.

Right now, all those men have gone, and then shadow of my past sexual life still follows me around. All this pills and tablets I took are now telling on my blood stream. At times I felt like committing suicide each time I remember what the doctor told me, “Tessy, I am sorry, your womb is automatically damaged on account of the several abortion you had”, “I’m sorry, you will never conceive again in your life, but just thank God, you don’t have HIV or AIDS”.

I therefore, advise every young girl reading this piece today, to over look every fantasy towards sex. Sex is good but it has time. And that is in marriage. Keep yourself away from men. Make friends with those who mean good for your future.

ZIM PM Morgan Tsvangirai Splashes US$40,000 On Lover's Kitchen Suite Makeover

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai recently splashed US$40,000 on a kitchen suite makeover for his fiancee, Ms Elizabeth Macheka, whose well known for her penchant for a lavish lifestyle. Reports say the US$40,000 kitchen for the couple's Borrowdale home which was ordered by Ms Macheka, is just the beginning.

Tsvangirai and his fiancee got engaged about a fortnight ago and the speed with which the PM has been made to dip his hands into the pockets to spoil his wife-to-be has alarmed many in the MDC.

Investigations carried out by The Sunday Mail show that Ms Macheka purchased the lucrative kitchen suite at Tusilago Kitchens, located along Seke Road in Harare, last Monday. The exclusive suite, dubbed Memphis Cherry, was purchased for a whopping $35 600 and it is one of the most expensive brands sold by Tusilago.

It comes with lots of extras which could   easily push the total cost to $40 000. Sources said Ms Macheka used cash to buy the suite on Monday last week before it was installed at the couple's house, at No. 150 Highgate, Borrowdale. It is understood that Ms Macheka told the contractors in no uncertain terms that the installation of the kitchen unit should be complete before she returns from her "honeymoon" in the US.

Reports say Ms Macheka, who owns a boutique in the Avenues area, was visibly excited about her new acquisition and indicated that she would spend even more on her bedroom units upon her return from the US. The PM's spokesperson, Luke Tamborinyoka, confirmed last week that his boss had gone to the US on a private visit to complete his annual leave which he had cut short because of a mysterious leg injury.

The Sunday Mail was silent on President Mugabe's wife, Grace whose shopping sprees abroad are legendary. She was a regular visitor to London before she and her husband were banned. The Mugabe's house in leafy Harare is lavishingly furnished with imported fittings.

But the government press is clearly gunning for Tsvangirai, scrutinising his every move. The Sunday Mail said while in the US, it is understood that the PM gave his fiancee an open cheque to spend as she pleases and this has not gone down well with some MDC-T leaders, both at home and in the Diaspora, who are accusing their leader of "living large" while the party is looking for funds in preparation for the impending elections.

A highly-placed MDC-T insider linked to Mr Tsvangirai's increasingly divided kitchen cabinet said: "I have seen all sorts of reports claiming that he (Tsvangirai) is completing his annual leave and others claiming that he just escorted his recently wedded son and, yes, all that may be part of the deal, but what I know for a fact is that he is going to celebrate his birthday in New York. This is a belated birthday celebration which initially he wanted to have last month.

"While, of course, he is entitled to have his leave and celebrate his birthday wherever he wants and with whomever he wants, the idea has not gone down well in the party because it is now becoming clearer and clearer that the Prime Minister is losing the plot and becoming more and more interested in his own personal pleasure than in providing leadership at a time when everyone else is talking about the looming elections.

"Any national leader who goes on leave to celebrate a birthday overseas the week when schools reopen has a problem and is not serious at all.
"One day you hear that Tsvangirai has married Locadia, 12 days later you hear he has divorced her, the next day you hear he has engaged Elizabeth and before you figure out what's going on you hear that he is off to America to enjoy his birthday with his new fiancee. How about party business, who is attending to it?"

MDC-T treasurer-general, Roy Bennett last week clearly showed that, as the man who scrounges around for the funds, he was fast getting fed up with Mr Tsvangirai when he wrote on his facebook wall accusing some MDC-T leaders of abandoning the people.
"Perhaps there are some at home who are trying to make themselves heroes and legends because they have something to hide? Some of those throwing stones at our

"Far from being heroes of the struggle, they are making love to Zanu-PF and living like kings. We are neither blind nor stupid," charged Bennet in a statement that was subtly aimed at the PM whose fiancée is daughter to Mr Macheka, a known Zanu-PF member. Sunday Mail
