Vote To Correct MMD Wrongs, Activist Urges Young Voters

YOUNG registered voters must vote with a view to correct the wrongs
that MMD has committed, according to a youth activist.

Beck Banda, the former president of the Forum for Youth Organisations
in Zambia, said youths must be mindful of the kind of hardships they
had been subjected to in the last 20 years the MMD had been in power.

“Young people who have just completed their schools and colleges and
are registered voters, they must listen and learn from our terrible
mistakes we made by voting for this MMD government.

Zambian youth have been subjected to a very harsh and cruel economic puzzle by this outgoing MMD government,” said Banda who is also aspiring to contest
the Bwacha seat in Kabwe on the PF ticket.

“The constitution
manipulation and failure has robbed the youth of an opportunity to
have a new millennium and 21st Century Constitution.“

Banda said over time the youth had been subjected to difficult situations.
“The shooting of the youth by the pro-exited MMD police, and since
1991, the MMD government has failed to amend or repeal the 1986
National Youth Development Council Act of Parliament despite several
years of demands by the youth movement.

Funding towards youth
programmes under MMD government in the past 10 years has been
overwhelmed by the game of manipulation and hide and seek, “he said.
”The memories of many youths are very fresh when this MMD government
cheated the youth of a K40 billion youth fund which was never released
in 2006.”

Banda accused the MMD government of being a corrupt and tyrannical regime.
“The youth of Zambia have made up their mind not to support the Rupiah
Banda government when he betrayed the trust that the late president
Levy Mwanawasa made to the young people after he budgeted K40 billion
as youth fund. Sadly, President Banda reduced it to K5 billion and
still no youth group apart from the MMD cadres have seen that fund,”
said Banda.
