Choose Humble Leaders, Advises Priest
A CATHOLIC priest says Zambians must choose humble leaders who will look after the citizens and make the country a better place.
During his farewell Mass at Kanyama’s St Joseph Parish yesterday, Fr Gabriel Mwanamwalye said people must seriously scrutinise all the leaders who will be contesting this year's elections.
“Please, choose the right people during this year's elections; people who will look after you and make Kanyama a better place. Don't choose leaders who will go to Parliament to go and sleep, we have got no blankets to give them,” Fr Mwanamwalye said.
He said the vote was sacred and there was need for people to look for responsible leaders when casting their votes.
“This year is a challenging year. Please, you should seriously scrutinise the leaders who will come here to campaign; choose humble leaders. Kanyama is known for diseases such as cholera, and it is your responsibility to ensure that this thing becomes a thing of the past,” he said.
And Fr Mwanamwalye wondered what kind of Christian nation Zambia was when people harboured a lot of hatred for each other in their hearts.
“The 'Christian nation' declaration is nothing if we continue doing the opposite, and this is what we are seeing in Zambia today - a Christian nation which is full of corruption and political violence,” Fr Mwanamwalye said.
Meanwhile, Fr Mwanamwalye who has been transfered to Chongwe, thanked the congregation for the help they rendered to him during his three-year stay at the parish.
He urged the congregation to pray for the new priest and defend him whenever he was attacked.
