CSOs Condemn Threats On The Electorate By Government
Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Zambia have condemned government for threatening the electorate so as to vote for them in this year’s tripartite elections.
This follows Education Minister Dora Siliya’s sentiments during a rally on the Copperbelt Province that government will not develop the area if they don’t vote for MMD.
Spokesperson for a consortium of CSOs Pamela Chisanga says government resources are public hence all Zambians despite their political affiliation need to benefit from.
She says government only manages resources for the people and they don’t belong to any political party whether ruling or opposition.
Ms. Chisanga who is also Action Aid Zambia Country Representative has questioned the source of the resources being used to carry out some developmental projects.
She says four CSOs among them the Transparency International Zambia (TIZ), Citizens Forum, Action Aid and Civil Society for Poverty Reduction decided to meet and discuss the issue which they feel is critical ahead of the 2011 elections.
