President Sata Must Address Contentious Issues Says Bishop Mususu

PRESIDENT Michael Sata should seriously consider addressing contentious national issues rather than keeping quiet when the country is in dare need of his guidance and leadership, says Bishop Paul Mususu. Commenting on the continued silence of President Sata from the time he returned from India where he held various meetings with hotelier investors, Bishop Mususu said Zambians were in order to demand for the presence of their president especially where the nation had critical issues that needed his indulgence.

Bishop Mususu said President Sata was not a private citizen anymore and therefore it was prudent that those in government advise him on critically on how to handle issues of national importance. He said keeping quiet on various issues would not help him and his government resolves the problems the nation was facing. “He sneaked out of the country on a private visit using tax payers’ money but what was behind is different. What the people know is that the President was unwell and that has been compounded with his silence since his return from the so-called private visit,” said Bishop Mususu.

Bishop Mususu who is Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) national overseer said there were many issues that needed to be attended to by President Sata and the PF government. He said the continued contradictions in government in the manner public statements were being issued by cabinet ministers were a source of concerns that needed President Sata’s direction. “It is sad that no one in this government sees the urgency and the need for President Sata to intervene in matters happening in Western Province, no one sees the importance to address the issue of poverty and the injustices people are subjected to,” said Bishop Mususu.

The clergyman observed that Zambians had many challenges they were facing which needed a responsible leadership. He said youths and unemployment should be number one agenda because failure to do that it would cause civil strife in the nation. “Let us not ignore the fact that there are issues such as lack of employment among our young people, there is an issue to do with the government’s inertia to handle the discontentment in Barotseland. These issues need to be addressed, there is need of a way forward for the people to feel safe being home,” he said.
