Mugabe 'Gravely ILL' in Singapore Hospital

Zimbabwe's president Robert Mugabe is reportedly gravely ill in a Singapore hospital.

Local media is reporting that the 88-year-old, who is believed to be suffering from prostate cancer, is surrounded by close family members.

A Zimbabwean cabinet meeting has been postponed amid reports Mr Mugabe will hand power to defence minister Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The Zimbabwe government insists Mr Mugabe is in good health, saying he only flew to Singapore to help his daughter enrol in a local university.

Singapore University registration does not begin until September.

Last year, WikiLeaks published diplomatic cables from 2008 which claimed Mr Mugabe had prostate cancer and had only a few years to live.

Mr Mugabe's ZANU-PF party took to Twitter in an attempt to dispel the latest rumours.

The Twitter feed said he was "merely on a prolonged shopping trip with his wife" in Singapore.

Mr Mugabe's second wife Grace, who is 40 years his junior, has been criticised in the past for indulging in lavish shopping sprees while so many Zimbabweans live in extreme poverty.

On Twitter ZANU-PF has railed against the Mugabe death rumours, claiming they are the work of "impatient and arrogant imperialists".

"So much hype about our beloved leader Cde GR Mugabe, people are spreading rumors like feces during a cholera crisis," it said.

ZANU-PF claims Mr Mugabe will rule until "he has freed all of Africa". Agencies
