You’ve our votes, Chief Puta assures RB

SENIOR Chief Puta of the Bwile people in Luapula Province has rallied his support for President Rupiah Banda in this year’s presidential elections.

The chief also said the withdrawal of incumbent Member of Parliament Katele Kalumba from re-contesting the Chiengi seat had been taken after wide consultations with the sub-chiefs and other stakeholders.

Senior Chief Puta, flanked by his subordinate chiefs that included chiefs Kalembwe, Shebele and Mwele and several senior headmen, said recent statements in a private tabloid that he would not support President Banda were ill-conceived.

He said this in a statement read for the attention of Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane and Tourism Minister Catherine Namugala who are in Luapula Province to tour development projects.

Senior Chief Puta  said since Zambia’s independence, two high schools, Mununga and Chikwanga, were being constructed in Chiengi District, while a new hospital was also being built.

He said all the 16 sub-chiefs under his authority were in support of President Banda and his Government and that the people in the area would support the successor of Dr Kalumba who had made it very clear that he would maintain his loyalty to the Government.
Senior Chief Puta’s statement was read  to the ministers by the chairperson of the Bwile Royal Establishment, Chief Kalembwe who is also the spokesperson of the establishment.

He said the decision by Mr Sata to shun the burial of late second president of the Republic of Zambia Frederick Chiluba spoke volumes of the PF leader’s character and that his humble understanding was that human beings forget any differences when a person is dead.

“Dr Chiluba is dead and forgiveness in times of death is natural. What Mr Sata did was not good. Human beings show love to the dead,” chief Puta said.
And Ms Namugala said she was humbled with the remarks by the traditional leaders and hoped the Government can do more in return for their support.
And Chief Nshimba of Kilwa Island said his people would support President Banda because they have witnessed massive development projects that include the procurement of mobile water ambulances to help the people who live on the Islands.
