President Rupiah Banda is tomorrow (Friday 8) expected in Sinazongwe in Southern Province to officiate at the re-opening of Maamba Mine which is expected to create 2000 jobs when fully operational.
The mine will re-open under the new majority equity partners Nava Bharat of Singapore who have acquired 65 percent equity in Maamba Collieries Limited.
Initially, Maamba Mine will create 200 jobs, and this is expected to rise to 2,000 upon the commencement of construction works on the thermal power plant in 2014.
After officiating at the mine ground-breaking ceremony, President Banda will later hold a public rally in the area.
The President's delegation is expected to return to Lusaka after concluding the scheduled business.
This is contained in a statement released to Media houses by the President's special assistant for press and public relations Dickson Jere.
