LAWSUITS AWAITS HH AND WATCHDOG
Leaks in have revealed that a number of citizen aggrieved by a gossip website called Watchdog have started meeting their lawyers for probable litigation. This follows a decision by the website’s owner Hakainde Hichilema to go public with print copies of the tabloid commencing 13th July.
The laws of Zambia require that any publication be done via a registered company with known fixed address and owners.
Another leak from Lagos road where the UPND secretariat is situated revealed that the idea to reform Watchdog into a print version was mooted at the last Management committee of the party. Members argued that in the absence of any backup from existing print media, there was need to take the risk and go public with the site.
However, a number of print companies refused to print the first issue for security and reputation reasons. This forced Hakainde to order a mini print press from China two weeks ago so that it is done in-house.
”The consignment arrives in the Country next week and will be based at the boss’s warehouse along Longolongo road in Lusaka.
In the meantime, Horizon printers have agreed to secretly print our first issue but without their formal endorsement anywhere on the publication.” the source said.
