A British citizen has been arrested in Bangkok after six foetuses were found stuffed into travel bags. Hok Kuen Chow, 28, a Briton born in Hong Kong of Taiwanese parents, was held in the city’s Yaowarat area after police received a tip-off.

He is suspected of trying to smuggle the foetuses – from two to seven months – back to Taiwan to sell to wealthy customers online.

Chow has reportedly admitted buying the bodies, which had been roasted dry and painted in gold leaf, for 200,000 baht (£4,040).

Back in Taiwan he could have sold them for six times that amount to rich clients who believe the foetuses will bring them good fortune. ‘The bodies are between the ages of two and seven months,’ said Wiwat Kumchumnan, of the police’s children and women protection unit.

‘Chow said he planned to sell the foetuses to clients who believe they will make them lucky and rich. ‘Some were found covered in gold leaf.’

Police said the bodies also had a variety of religious decoration and tattoos on them.

It was not clear yesterday where the bodies, which had been stored in six travel bags, came from or who had handed them over to Chow.



It is possible they had undergone the grisly Thai practice ‘Kuman Thong’, in which unwanted babies are surgically removed from their mother’s womb before being subjected to a ceremonial ritual.

Instead of being buried, the bodies are roasted dry and covered with a lacquer before being painted with gold leaf.

Chow, who was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of human remains, was staying at a hotel in a backpacker area in Bangkok when he was detained.

Police had received a tip-off that foetus corpses were being offered to wealthy clients through a website advertising black magic services. Black magic rituals are still practised in Thailand, where street-side fortune tellers offer ceremonies to reverse bad luck.

Chow faces one year in prison and a 2,000 baht (£40) fine if he is found guilty.

In November 2010, health inspectors found 2,000 foetuses on a building site by a monastery in Bangkok which had been illegally aborted.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office yesterday confirmed it was on stand-by following the arrest.

A spokesman said: ‘We can confirm the arrest of a British national in Bangkok on May 18. ‘We stand ready to provide consular assistance.’

LONDON: While many people may think it's an activity which should be best learned behind closed doors, an enterprising Swedish schoolmistress thinks otherwise.

Ylva-Maria Thompson has opened the world's first international sex school for teaching the art of being better lovers, the Daily Mail reported.

The Austrian International Sex School in Vienna offers 'hands on' lessons in seduction for 1,400 pounds a term. The 'headmistress' says anyone over the age of 16 can enrol at 'the world's first college of applied sexuality'.

Students of the course are expected to stay in a co-ed dormitory block where they're expected to practice their 'homework'. By the end of their course, they are awarded a qualification.

The school head said: "Our core education is not theoretical, but very practical. The emphasis is on how to be a better lover.

"Sexual positions, caressing techniques, anatomical features. And we teach people hands on."

School's spokesperson Melodi Kirsch exuded confidence that the school would be a great success.

The school, however, has already turned controversial in Austria with it raunchy advertisments showing a couple making love having already invited ban by Austrian TV.

New York State police in Nassau County have arrested 45-year-old Catherine Scalia after detectives say she was offering up more than kraut and relish from her roadside hot dog truck.

Scalia, of East Rockaway, was arrested after police said that she offered to engage in sexual conduct at her home with an undercover detective in return for money.

The undercover cop bought two hot dogs from her truck parked near Sunrise Highway in Baldwin, N.Y. The cop also noticed suggestive business cards offering services you don't usually get from a food vendor.

According to officials, Scalia would inform customers to respond to her home where she would perform assorted sexual acts in exchange for money.

"The agreed amount was about $100 and then to further engage in an additional sex act - it was another $50," said Nassau County Detective Lt. Kevin Smith said.

African Governments have reaffirmed their demand for two permanent seats and about five non-permanent seats in the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
In their submissions during an Informal Plenary meeting of the General Assembly on equitable representation in the membership of the Security Council, several African countries and other friendly nations backed the calls for more representation of the 54-nation continent in the Security Council.
Zambia’s permanent representative to the UN Dr Mwaba Kasese-Bota, said the African proposal sought to redress the historical injustice to the continent through the Security Council composition and processes.
"It is the position of the African Group that there should be expansion in both the permanent and non-permanent categories with the new permanent members exercising all privileges and obligations that go with permanency tenure," Dr Kasese- Bota said.
She said in her submission to the Council that despite Africa being subject to 70 percent of the Security Council’s decisions, the continent did not have permanent representatives.
Dr Kasese-Bota who called for change of the status quo however said Africa exercises flexibility on issues of maintaining or abolishing the veto for all permanent members of the Council.
She said Africa was opposed to any piecemeal approach but comprehensive style.
And Botswana’s representative to the UN Charles Ntwaagae said Africa remained committed to reforming the Security Council to make it more representative, more accountable, more democratic and inclusive in its composition and method of work.
"The identification of the candidate countries to occupy the Permanent Seats should be left to the wisdom of African leaders to decide on," Ambassador Ntwaagae said.
And Coordinator of the C-10 Group negotiating on behalf of the African Group, Ambassador Shekou Touray, of Sierra Leone said support for the African Common position continued to receive support in the continent's quest to claim permanent membership in the Security Council and address the historical under-representation.
Ambassador Touray said the UN Security Council was the principal decision-making organ in matters relating to international peace and security.
Currently the UN Security Council is composed of five permanent members being China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America and 10 non-permanent members of which only South Africa and Togo are from Africa which has the largest number of UN members.
