Sata Presents Mangani To Undi

PF leader Michael Sata yesterday presented Lameck Mangani to His Royal Highness Kalonga Gawa Undi of the Chewa people of Eastern province.

Sata, who arrived at Mukaika palace around 10:00 hours immediately, proceeded into a closed door meeting with his royal highness, which lasted for about an hour and half hours.

Sata and Mangani left the palace around 11:30 hours and drove back to Chipata in readiness for a rally in Luangeni Constituency.

Meanwhile, Mangani said it would be impossible for the MMD to achieve even 60 per cent of the total votes in Eastern Province.

In an interview yesterday, Mangani, who is Chipata Central Member of Parliament, said the Saturday rally was testimony that things have changed in the province.

“As president (Sata) indicated yesterday, Eastern Province is an agriculture province, so any government that does not put serious attention to agriculture risks being voted out” Mangani said. “The fertilizer support programme is a good programme but the reduction in the number of bags from eight to four has demoralized the farmers”

Mangani said there was poor infrastructure in the province, particularly the road network.

“A lot of feeder roads are extremely in a bad state, as such the people think the government is not paying attention to their needs.  Even the water supply in the province is bad.  Eastern Province has got very big village groupings and most of these don’t have water supply, they just draw water from the streams”

Mangani said this time around, the people of Eastern Province wanted to be associated with the wind of change.

“To a larger extent, even the ordinary residents also feel that the MMD has outlived its usefulness.  No wonder it will be impossible for the MMD to achieve 60 percent of the total votes in Eastern Province’” said Mangani.
